Ruffstone Tavern Offers a Unique Hang Out

If you are looking for a fun, affordable place to hang out, get a bite to eat, or just meet up with friends, try the Ruffstone Tavern in Providence, Rhode Island. Located directly behind Rhode Island College at 17 Metcalf Avenue, the Ruffstone is an ideal spot for college students and older to have a drink and not go broke. With 130 years of history under its belt, the restaurant and bar makes improvements every year with renovations, new events, and a menu that will have you coming back for more.

In addition to a pub-style seafood menu, the restaurant offers a long list of Italian food as well, with large-portioned appetizers, dinners, and a wine list. In addition, the Ruffstone holds a ton of events during the week that attract more than just college students. It is open from 6pm-2am on Tuesdays, 4pm-1am Wednesday and Thursdays, and open from 3pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. There is always a large crowd at the bar by 11pm, thanks to the cheap prices of food and the lack of a cover charge at most events. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week, the Ruffstone offers $5.00 Coors Light Pitchers, and even has a separate room with beer pong rules and large beer pong tables for tournaments. In addition, Thursday nights are College Nights, where college students can get a discount on certain foods and appetizers with their college ID. Their cheeseburgers and hot dogs, both cooked with a gourmet taste, are as low as $2.50 each.

Perhaps the largest selling point for the Ruffstone as a bar itself are the Friday nights there. Starting at 9pm and continuing until 1am, the bar offers Red Barron Karaoke, in which it is perfectly plausible to get up and sing in front of your friends regardless of your singing talent. Regardless of whether are looking for a low-key dinner with your friends, or a crazy night at the bar without completely emptying your pockets, the Ruffstone Tavern is the place to be.

  1. Ok let me just start by saying I have been to many places good and bad, and the ruff-stone Tavern is by far the WORST bar none. First of all the bartender, and the bar maids are VERY impolite, rude, and arrogant. I went with my friend when she ordered a drink (kamikaze) it took the bartender about 10 minutes to get to her, also the drink was terrible way too watery a waste of $8.99. When I went to order a beer the bar lady asked if I wanted a pitcher I said "No thank you" she then replied "Wow you cheap Italian pricks are unwelcome here". Next i ordered some chicken wings and they were AWFUL, cold in the middle and the outside was burned, also the fires that came with it where cold an soggy, YUCK! Finally the bartender that was working on Thursday night was serving alcohol to minors, one of them was my sister's friend who ended up getting sick. I am appalled at the terrible food, service, environment, and value. I do NOT recommend to ANYONE! 1 STAR! I wish I could say something good about this place but I can't.
