Ruffstone Tavern Offers a Unique Hang Out

If you are looking for a fun, affordable place to hang out, get a bite to eat, or just meet up with friends, try the Ruffstone Tavern in Providence, Rhode Island. Located directly behind Rhode Island College at 17 Metcalf Avenue, the Ruffstone is an ideal spot for college students and older to have a drink and not go broke. With 130 years of history under its belt, the restaurant and bar makes improvements every year with renovations, new events, and a menu that will have you coming back for more.

In addition to a pub-style seafood menu, the restaurant offers a long list of Italian food as well, with large-portioned appetizers, dinners, and a wine list. In addition, the Ruffstone holds a ton of events during the week that attract more than just college students. It is open from 6pm-2am on Tuesdays, 4pm-1am Wednesday and Thursdays, and open from 3pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. There is always a large crowd at the bar by 11pm, thanks to the cheap prices of food and the lack of a cover charge at most events. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week, the Ruffstone offers $5.00 Coors Light Pitchers, and even has a separate room with beer pong rules and large beer pong tables for tournaments. In addition, Thursday nights are College Nights, where college students can get a discount on certain foods and appetizers with their college ID. Their cheeseburgers and hot dogs, both cooked with a gourmet taste, are as low as $2.50 each.

Perhaps the largest selling point for the Ruffstone as a bar itself are the Friday nights there. Starting at 9pm and continuing until 1am, the bar offers Red Barron Karaoke, in which it is perfectly plausible to get up and sing in front of your friends regardless of your singing talent. Regardless of whether are looking for a low-key dinner with your friends, or a crazy night at the bar without completely emptying your pockets, the Ruffstone Tavern is the place to be.

Asia Grill - Lincoln RI

Asia Grille

Asia Grille, located in Lincoln Rhode Island offers a wide selection of Chinese cuisine at a very reasonable price. This popular restaurant and lounge is often busy Friday nights and on weekends. Go there expecting at least a 30 minute wait on those days. The good quality is consistent from visit to visit and some gluten free items are available. The atmosphere is very relaxed and I never feel rushed, no matter how busy they are. They also provide the guests with Karaoke on Thursday nights from 8pm to Midnight.

Eggs Up, Cumberland RI

Eggs Up

Egg's Up on Mendon Road in Cumberland RI, with their relaxed at home atmosphere, reasonable prices & good portions also equates, at times to long lines, especially on the weekends. The Egg's Up experience is well worth the wait, and even with a packed restaurant, your food is brought out in a timely manor and you never feel rushed.

Paragon - Thayer St, Providence RI

Paragon

Paragon on Thayer Street offers a wide selection for it's Sunday brunch buffet. The breakfast was a good quality and set up for the buffet, moved smoothly and the items were clearly marked. There is even an area where you can have an omelet made-to-order, which I thought was a nice touch. The clientele was a mix of college students & families; seeing as this is a breakfast buffet, the price for an adult was $17.99, was a bit high.

My son was dismayed that they didn't have coffee milk, which at 11 he found was completely unacceptable, seeing that this is Rhode Island after all. Overall, Paragon with it's casual atmosphere and wide selection, would be a nice treat once in awhile. However it's rather high buffet price earns this establishment 3 out of 5 star.

Blue State Coffee - Thayer St, Providence RI

I've tried to write a review for Blue State Coffee many time now, but could never seem to get the right words to come out. From the unique atmosphere, local art hanging on the walls, the eco-friendly cups & great pricing... wait, wait, because there is good drinks, great customer service, good food, free wifi & a bathroom key attached to a creamer container.

It really is the whole package, I even love that with each purchase you get a token to vote where partial proceeds are going (there are 4 charities to choose from).

P.S. The girl sitting beside me just said (and I quote), "I like this place better then starbucks."

Me too, Me too.

Shark - Thayer St, Providence RI (Food Review)

Considering Shark is one of the most expensive sushi restaurants in Rhode Island, I would have expected both better service & better sushi. Located midway down Thayer Street in Providence RI, Shark no0doubt has a great atmosphere but lacks in a few very important aspects.

Before I get to the food, as I take in the atmosphere, I can't help but to notice the undersized bar, which I'm seated (behind two giant containers of pineapple) the tables for two look way to small for a sushi dinner, let alone a boat and the service left something to be desired. I had to tell the bartender after my sushi arrived that my meal included miso soup, which she then brought me. I was also confused as to why the staff wouldn't know whether or not there was wi-fi. I had to inform the bartender, no there wasn't.

Now the meal, the obvious, most important part of a dinner experience, which in my eyes was extremely over priced. I ordered a sushi combo platter, priced at $17, which included 18 total pieces, all of which were the size of an average supermarket sushi roll. I can safely say I would have rather visited wholefoods and picked my sushi out of a cooler, rather than go there again. Normally it would take me all of 10 minutes to eat a plate of sushi, tonight I'ved decided to write this review in place of eating it.

So although the lighting is well done, the location is fun & the extra large fish tank is definently cool, I give this restaurant 2 thumbs down.

In my eyes sushi is an art. From the presentation to the texture to the taste. Every part playing on the other, every part missing from my meal tonight.

Our New Site

I cant count the amount of times, I was tired of watching another movie on tv, reading a book, playing on the computer... I just wanted to go out... But I didnt know where. Then something really bad happened. My Sunday night Karaoke Spot was cancelled!!! Oh for shame!!! What was I to do now? I searched and I searched and I just couldn't find a good website where I could find something to do, spur of the moment or very planned out... There was nothing!!!

I'm a go getter, so I made a website, FREE to the consumer (you) and FREE to the pubs (them)...

Now I seriously spent a great deal of time setting up this website, which is a good thing I came into this idea now... I'm also a wedding photographer, so I'm currently in my off season... But I've been researching pubs and bars and restaurants, calling, emailing and searching the web to find the places with karaoke, open mic, rockband night etc.

If you see something that is missing on the site, let me know, I'll definently take any suggestions.

So the way I'm going to pay for my time for this site is to have some ad space available for only $25 a month... Considering this is the only full bodied website listing of entertainment out there. I would say that is a very good place to put your advertising budget. If you book for the year, I will even give you 1 month free.

We will have future blogs of wine tastings, pub reviews, food reviews and more...

I hope you enjoy the site!!! I know I will!!!
